Born in Denizli on May 1st, 1941. Graduated from the Law School
of Istanbul University.

During the years of his studentship, he served as the President of
the Students' Association of the Istanbul University and the Chairman
of the Cyprus Committee of the Students' Association of High Education.

He was elected as the deputy for Denizli from the Justice Party in the
1969 and then from the Democratic Party in the 1973 elections. He
served as one of the founders of the Democratic Party, Vice-President
of the Democratic Party Group and the Chairman of the Inter-party
Constitutional Committee of the Turkish Parliament.

Between 1971-1991, he worked as a legal adviser in the public and
the private sector.

He was again elected as the deputy for Denizli from Motherland Party
i the 1991 and 1995 elections and worked as the Vice-Speaker of the
Turkish Parliament, the Chairman of the Commission of the Inter-party
Harmonisation, the Chairman of the Commission of Culture, Art and
Publication of the Parliament.

Between 1986-1991, he served as a member of the Board of Directors
and the President of the Association of the Turkish Parliamentarians.

On June 13th, 2004 he was elected once more as the President of the
Association of the Turkish Parliamentarians.

Married to mrs Refika Korkmazcan, two daughters.
