Born on 13 March 1912 at Greci. Married with Maria Luisa Sternini. Catholic.
· Professor emeritus of History of the treaties and international politics
at the University "La Sapienza" at Rome. Has been Professor of International
law at the University of Bologna, the University of Florence and at the Academy
of International Law at The Hague. Director of the trimestrial publication "Rivista
di Studi Politici Internazionali" which has been published in Florence without
interruption for 71 years. Autor of numerous publications of historical-diplomatic
and political-economical interest, some of them having been translated in foreign
languages. Golden Medal of the Italian Public Instruction.
· Former MP and Senator of Florence (1953-1976); former Under-Secretary
of State for Justice; former President of the Italian Association of former MP's
· Elected President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe
(1972-1975). Appointed honorary President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the
Council of Europe (27 September 1988) "in recognition of his services to the
European question
· President of the Defence and Armament Committee of the WEU
· Member of the North Atlantic Assembly
· Member of the Executive Committee of the Inter-Parliamentary Union
and President of the Italian IPU-Group
· Expert of the Study Center of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Italian delegate
to various international conferences (UNO, UNESCO, NATO)
· Member of the Italian Diplomatic Arbitration Board
· Member of the Committee of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for
the publication of diplomatic documents
